Zohran Mamdani Wins NYC Mayoral Race as Democratic Socialist

Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani won the New York City mayoral election on November 4, 2025, defeating Republican Curtis Sliwa and independent Andrew Cuomo with 50.78% of the vote. Mamdani became the first Muslim and first South Asian mayor of NYC, and its youngest since 1892. His campaign focused on housing affordability, free transit, and economic equity.
