Trump pardons all January 6 defendants on Inauguration Day

On his first day back in office, President Donald Trump issues sweeping pardons and commutations to approximately 1,500 people charged in connection with the January 6 attack. He pardons virtually all convicted rioters, including hundreds who assaulted police officers. He commutes the sentences of 14 members of far-right extremist groups convicted of seditious conspiracy, releasing them from prison. He also orders the Justice Department to dismiss all pending cases.
