Chavez-DeRemer orders 99 Job Corps centers to pause operations by June 30

Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer announced on May 29, 2025 that the Department of Labor would pause operations at all 99 contractor-operated Job Corps centers by June 30. She cited a 32% graduation rate from DOL''s April 2025 transparency report, 14,913 serious incident reports filed in program year 2023, and a $140 million program-year 2024 deficit. The order threatened to displace roughly 25,000 enrolled students.
