DeSantis signs Florida redistricting map into law

Governor Ron DeSantis signed the legislature-approved congressional redistricting map into law on May 4, 2026, completing Florida's mid-decade redistricting. The law takes effect immediately for 2026 candidate qualifying, which opens in June. Opponents filed the first lawsuit against the map on the same day, arguing it violated Florida's Fair Districts Amendment, which prohibits drawing maps that diminish the ability of racial minorities to elect representatives of their choice. The signed map creates a 24-4 Republican advantage in a state Trump carried by 13 points in 2024.
