EPA delays PFAS drinking water cleanup until 2031 and drops four limits
The Environmental Protection Agency announced on June 25, 2025 that it would delay compliance deadlines for PFAS drinking water standards from 2029 to 2031 and withdraw limits on four of six regulated compounds, citing cost concerns. The Biden EPA had set maximum contaminant levels for six PFAS chemicals including PFOA and PFOS at 4 parts per trillion. The Trump EPA retained PFOA and PFOS limits but removed limits on GenX and three other compounds.
