Trump administration releases $1B in withheld 21st CCLC afterschool funds

After 18 days of withholding $6.8 billion in already-appropriated education grants, OMB released roughly $1 billion in 21st Century Community Learning Centers funds on July 18, 2025. The release followed a bipartisan letter led by Rep. Lucy McBath, lawsuits and pressure from state attorneys general, and coverage of forced summer-program closures. Other K-12 grants under Title I-C, II-A, III-A, and IV-A remained frozen.
