Biden walks UAW picket line in Michigan first sitting president to do so
President Biden travels to Van Dyke, Michigan to join striking United Auto Workers members on a picket line outside a General Motors facility, the first time a sitting U.S. president has walked a picket line in American history. The UAW has launched a targeted strike against all three Detroit automakers, GM, Ford, and Stellantis, simultaneously for the first time since 1976. Biden tells the workers "You deserve a notable raise you didn't get when the companies were in trouble." UAW president Shawn Fain wins historic contracts including 25% pay increases over the life of the deal at all three companies.
