IRA insulin cap takes effect Medicare enrollees insulin costs capped at $35/month

A main Inflation Reduction Act provision takes effect, capping insulin costs at $35 per month for all 3.4 million Medicare Part D enrollees who take insulin. The change saves many diabetic seniors hundreds of dollars per month, some were paying $500 or more. On the same date, all Medicare Part D beneficiaries gain access to recommended vaccines (including shingles and Tdap) at no cost. The $35 insulin cap was a decades-long Democratic priority blocked by pharmaceutical industry lobbying. After the IRA passed, the three largest insulin manufacturers, Eli Lilly, Sanofi, and Novo Nordisk, also announce $35 monthly caps on their insulins for commercially insured patients, covering 90% of the insulin market.
