The World Professional Association for Transgender Health released Standards of Care Version 8 on September 15, 2022, the first revision in a decade and the first to include a chapter dedicated exclusively to adolescent care. SOC8 removed previous minimum age requirements for treatments and emphasized individual clinical assessment over fixed thresholds, reflecting research showing that earlier intervention often produces better mental health outcomes for adolescents with persistent gender dysphoria. Conservative legislators cited SOC8's removal of age floors as evidence of insufficient safeguards, while medical organizations cited it as the authoritative clinical standard.
