Senate acquits Trump in his second impeachment trial as 7 Republicans vote to convict
The U.S. Senate voted 57-43 to acquit Donald Trump on a charge of incitement of insurrection following the January 6 Capitol attack, falling short of the two-thirds majority required for conviction. Seven Republican senators -- Bill Cassidy, Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Richard Burr, Ben Sasse, Pat Toomey, and Mitt Romney -- broke with their party to vote guilty, the largest bipartisan conviction vote in any presidential impeachment trial. Trump became the first president acquitted twice by the Senate.
