FEC fines DNC and Clinton campaign over Steele dossier payments

On March 30, 2022, the FEC fined the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign for misreporting payments that funded opposition research behind the Steele dossier. The civil penalties showed how major campaign-finance violations can be resolved without criminal charges.
