Trump rescinds Biden AI executive order on first day, eliminating mandatory safety reporting for frontier models

President Trump signed an executive order on January 20, 2025 — his first day in office — rescinding Biden's EO 14110 along with 77 other Biden-era executive actions. The rescission eliminated the only binding federal requirement for AI companies to share safety test results with the government before public release. Trump simultaneously signed a separate AI executive order titled "Removing Barriers to American Leadership in Artificial Intelligence," which directed agencies to remove regulations that "unduly burden" AI development.
