NATO Warsaw Summit deploys four multinational battlegroups to Poland and Baltic states
NATO heads of state agreed at the July 2016 Warsaw Summit to deploy four multinational battlegroups to Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland as Enhanced Forward Presence. The United States led the Poland battlegroup, the United Kingdom led in Estonia, Canada in Latvia, and Germany in Lithuania. The deployments became operational by early 2017 and served as a tripwire ensuring any Russian attack would engage forces from multiple NATO nations.
