Judge Rejects Chrome Sale in Google Monopoly Remedy Ruling

A federal judge rejected the Department of Justice's proposed remedy requiring Google to divest its Chrome browser as a cure for the company's illegal search monopoly, ruling instead on behavioral remedies and restrictions on exclusive default search agreements. Judge Amit Mehta had found Google liable for monopolization in 2024; the September 2025 remedy decision allowed Google to keep Chrome but barred it from paying billions to be the default search engine on Apple and other devices.
