Trump signs Executive Order 13768 threatening to strip federal grants from sanctuary cities
President Trump signed Executive Order 13768, "Enhancing Public Safety in the Interior of the United States," directing the Attorney General and DHS Secretary to ensure that sanctuary jurisdictions that refuse to comply with 8 U.S.C. § 1373 — which bars cities from prohibiting employees from sharing immigration information with federal authorities — would be ineligible for federal grants. The order also directed ICE to prioritize enforcement against anyone convicted of a criminal offense, charged, or who had committed acts constituting a chargeable offense.
