US Marshals Service Reports Spike in Threats Against Federal Judges in Early 2025
The U.S. Marshals Service reported 373 threats against federal judges in the first five months of 2025, nearly matching all 509 cases in 2024. The surge coincided with judges issuing rulings against Trump administration policies. The Marshals Service faced simultaneous personnel shortages even as protective demands grew. Chief Justice John Roberts had previously noted more than 1,000 serious threats over five years resulting in 50+ criminal charges.
