Trump Backs Down from Insurrection Act Threat Against Minneapolis Protesters

After threatening on Jan. 14 via Truth Social to invoke the Insurrection Act against "professional agitators and insurrectionists" in Minnesota if officials did not stop anti-ICE protests, Trump reversed course on Jan. 15, telling reporters there was no reason to use it "right now." The threat had followed weeks of mass protests sparked by the Jan. 7 ICE killing of Renee Good. A federal judge also placed limits on federal agents' response to protesters.
