Trump Endorses Democrat Cuomo for NYC Mayor, Tells Voters to Skip Republican Sliwa to Block Mamdani

On Nov. 3, 2025, Trump endorsed independent Andrew Cuomo — a lifelong Democrat — for New York City mayor, urging voters to reject Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa to prevent progressive Zohran Mamdani from winning. Trump threatened to cut federal NYC funding if Mamdani won. Cuomo had previously said he would decline a Trump endorsement. Mamdani won the Nov. 4 election with 50.78% despite Trump's cross-party intervention.
