ICE agent kills Minneapolis mother Renée Good during immigration sweep

ICE deportation officer Jonathan Ross shot and killed Renée Nicole Good, a 37-year-old U.S. citizen and mother of three, on January 7, 2026 during Operation Metro Surge in south Minneapolis. Good had just dropped her six-year-old son at school and was not an ICE target. Video analysis by ABC News and CNN found Good was steering away from Ross one second before he fired, directly contradicting DHS Secretary Kristi Noem's claim that Good had "weaponized her vehicle." The FBI took sole control of the investigation the following day, barring Minnesota's Bureau of Criminal Apprehension from accessing evidence, and DOJ declined to open a civil rights investigation into Ross.
