Iran suspends IAEA cooperation E3 trigger JCPOA snapback mechanism after nuclear non-compliance

The UK, France, and Germany trigger the JCPOA's snapback dispute resolution mechanism after Iran's parliament votes to suspend cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency. IAEA inspectors had detected uranium particles enriched to 83.7%, near weapons-grade, at Iran's Fordow facility earlier in 2023. The snapback mechanism sets in motion a process that could restore UN sanctions unless the Security Council votes to terminate them. Russia and China signal they will block any Security Council action.
