Bondi Issues 30-Day Ultimatum to Sanctuary States on Inmate Records

Attorney General Pam Bondi issued a formal directive giving sanctuary jurisdictions 30 days to comply with DOJ requests for data on noncitizen inmates or face federal consequences including potential loss of funding. The directive targeted California, Illinois, New York, and other states with policies limiting cooperation with federal immigration enforcement. State attorneys general immediately announced they would contest the order.
