ACA marketplace enrollment hits all-time record of 21 million nearly doubles since Biden took office
The Biden administration announces that 21.3 million Americans have signed up for health coverage through Affordable Care Act marketplaces during the 2024 Open Enrollment Period, the highest total in the ACA's history. Enrollment has nearly doubled since Biden took office in 2021, when 11.4 million people enrolled. The growth is driven by expanded premium subsidies from the American Rescue Plan and Inflation Reduction Act, which lowered premiums by an average of $800 per year. The uninsured rate falls to a historic low of 7.7%. Total ACA-related coverage, including Medicaid expansion, reaches 45 million Americans. By January 2025, the 2025 Open Enrollment Period breaks the record again with nearly 24 million enrollees.
