Texas Legislature passes mid-decade redistricting plan C2333
The Texas Legislature passed Plan C2333 during a special session called at the behest of President Donald Trump, redrawing the state's 38 congressional districts to eliminate five Democratic-held seats. Governor Greg Abbott signed the map into law. Republicans targeted seats held by Democrats in Houston, Dallas, Austin, and along the Rio Grande Valley by splitting minority-majority communities into multiple districts. Opponents argued the map was a racial gerrymander that diluted Black and Hispanic voting power in violation of the Voting Rights Act.
