Trump Signs Executive Order Designating Antifa a Domestic Terrorist Organization

President Trump signed an executive order designating antifa as a domestic terrorist organization, the first formal domestic terrorism designation in U.S. history. The order characterized antifa as a militarist, anarchist enterprise and directed all executive agencies to investigate, disrupt, and dismantle antifa and any person providing it material support. Because antifa has no centralized structure or membership rolls, legal experts warned the order would reach loosely associated anti-fascist activists and create criminal exposure for anyone with organizational ties. The order set the institutional foundation for the State Department foreign terrorist organization designations of European left-wing groups and the 2026 national counterterrorism strategy.
