Maryland Threatens to Cut Funding for MAGA-Aligned School Boards

Maryland State Superintendent Carey Wright issued formal warnings to three school districts whose newly elected MAGA-affiliated school boards had passed resolutions defying state education policies on diversity curricula and LGBTQ+ inclusive materials. The state threatened to withhold Title I federal pass-through funds and state aid unless boards reversed course within 30 days. The standoff marked one of the first direct state-level funding confrontations over local school board ideological shifts.
