Donald Trump defeats Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election, winning the Electoral College 312-226 and the national popular vote by approximately 2.3 percentage points, becoming the first major party candidate since George W. Bush in 2004 to win the popular vote. Trump also becomes the first person convicted of a felony to be elected president, having been convicted on 34 counts of falsifying business records in New York in May 2024. Republicans retake the Senate and narrow their House majority. Trump will enter office with all 34 felony counts, sentencing delayed by the election.
