Hemp Ban Hidden in Government Shutdown Deal Threatens to Wipe Out $28 Billion Industry

Congress buried a provision in the shutdown deal criminalizing hemp products containing more than 0.4 mg of total THC per container — a threshold industry executives said would eliminate 95% of the $28 billion hemp retail market. The ban threatened 300,000 jobs. It would take effect one year after passage and effectively reversed the 2018 Farm Bill's hemp legalization framework.
