Trump signs stopgap spending bill, ending 35-day government shutdown without border wall funding

President Trump signs a three-week continuing resolution to reopen the federal government after the longest government shutdown in American history - 35 days. The deal includes no funding for Trump's requested $5.7 billion border wall, the demand that had triggered the shutdown on Dec. 22, 2018. Trump says he signed the bill to protect federal workers' paychecks while negotiations continue. The shutdown had furloughed approximately 800,000 federal workers, many of whom worked without pay including TSA agents, air traffic controllers, Coast Guard personnel, and FBI agents.
