Judge Indefinitely Bars Trump from Fining UCLA $1.2 Billion Over Antisemitism Claims Without Due Process

U.S. District Judge Rita Lin issued a preliminary injunction blocking the Trump administration from fining UCLA $1.2 billion or imposing sweeping ideological conditions on the University of California system as a condition of restored federal grants. Lin wrote that the administration was "engaged in a concerted campaign to purge 'woke,' 'left,' and 'socialist' viewpoints" from universities. The settlement demand included banning DEI scholarships, declaring transgender people "do not exist," and restricting foreign enrollment.
