Trump signs EO 14159 mandating maximum 287(g) expansion and all-removable enforcement
President Trump signed Executive Order 14159, Protecting the American People Against Invasion, on his first day back in office on January 20, 2025. The order directed ICE to authorize state and local officials under 287(g) to the maximum extent permitted by law, revoked Biden-era enforcement limits, and eliminated virtually all categories of enforcement exemptions. The order also reinstated Secure Communities-style fingerprint sharing, expanded expedited removal to anyone present in the U.S. for less than two years, and directed DHS to cut grants to sanctuary jurisdictions.
