Senate votes 50-49 to repeal Boundary Waters mining ban under CRA
The Senate voted 50-49 to repeal President Biden's 20-year mining ban near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness using the Congressional Review Act. Republican Senators Susan Collins of Maine and Thom Tillis of North Carolina voted against repeal, warning of irreparable harm to the wilderness and irregular use of the CRA. Josh Hawley of Missouri did not vote. The bill, H.J. Res. 140, was sponsored by Rep. Pete Stauber and headed to President Trump for signature, clearing the path for Twin Metals to reapply for its underground copper mine.
