Trump asks Comey to drop FBI investigation of Flynn

After a February 14, 2017 counterterrorism briefing, President Trump cleared all senior advisors from the Oval Office and told FBI Director James Comey he hoped Comey could "let this go" regarding the Bureau's investigation of Michael Flynn. Comey documented the request in a contemporaneous memo and did not halt the investigation. The Mueller Report identified this conversation as a central element of its obstruction-of-justice analysis, noting Trump had a personal interest in ending the Flynn matter because Flynn could expose other Russia-related conversations.
