Trump pardons four Blackwater contractors convicted in Nisour Square massacre

President Trump pardoned four Blackwater private security contractors on December 22, 2020, who had been convicted for their roles in the 2007 Nisour Square massacre in Baghdad in which 14 Iraqi civilians were killed. One contractor, Nicholas Slatten, had been convicted of first-degree murder. The Iraqi government condemned the pardons, and human rights organizations warned they sent a signal that American contractors operating in conflict zones faced no lasting accountability for killing civilians.
