Trump pardons Steve Bannon for 'We Build the Wall' donor fraud on last day in office
President Trump pardoned former chief strategist Steve Bannon on January 20, 2021 — his final hours in office — in the federal fraud case in which SDNY prosecutors alleged Bannon and co-defendants secretly funneled donor money from a crowdfunded border-wall effort into personal use. Bannon had pleaded not guilty and had not yet been tried. The pardon was issued without standard DOJ pardon attorney review and did not cover Bannon's later contempt of Congress conviction from defying the January 6 Committee subpoena.
