Tom Barrack charged with acting as unregistered agent for UAE while advising Trump

DOJ charged Trump inaugural committee chairman Tom Barrack on July 20, 2021 with acting as an unregistered agent of the United Arab Emirates and lying to federal investigators. Prosecutors alleged Barrack used his close access to the Trump campaign and transition to promote UAE interests, including influencing U.S. energy policy and personnel decisions. Barrack had raised $107 million for Trump's 2017 inaugural committee. A jury acquitted him at trial in November 2022.
