Kushner and Ivanka Trump receive security clearances over career intelligence officials' objections

Career intelligence officials in the White House Security Office recommended denying security clearances to Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump due to concerns about foreign contacts, foreign influence, and personal conduct. White House Personnel Security Director Carl Kline overruled those recommendations in 2018. Whistleblower Tricia Newbold told the House Oversight Committee that Kline had overruled career officials on 25 individuals including Kushner. Kushner's clearance gave him access to the President's Daily Brief and classified material across multiple foreign policy portfolios.
