NARA confirms Trump White House delivered torn presidential records to archives
The National Archives confirmed in February 2022 that Trump White House records arrived at the archives torn up, with some taped back together and others in pieces that could not be reconstructed. NARA had to retrieve 15 boxes of presidential records from Mar-a-Lago that should have been transferred to the archives when Trump left office. The Presidential Records Act requires the preservation of all presidential records. The torn records finding contributed to NARA's referral to DOJ that eventually led to the Mar-a-Lago search warrant.
