House impeaches Trump on abuse of power and obstruction of Congress
The House of Representatives voted on December 18, 2019 to impeach President Trump on two articles: abuse of power, for conditioning official acts on Ukraine investigations of political rivals, and obstruction of Congress, for directing blanket noncompliance with the impeachment inquiry. The votes were 230-197 on the first article and 229-198 on the second, largely along party lines. The Senate acquitted Trump on both articles on February 5, 2020, with only Senator Mitt Romney voting to convict on the abuse of power count.
