National Trust sues Trump administration to halt White House ballroom construction

The National Trust for Historic Preservation files suit in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia against President Trump, the General Services Administration, and related agencies, arguing that construction of the White House ballroom is unlawful. The lawsuit asserts the administration violated the Appropriations Clause by authorizing major construction without congressional approval, and bypassed legally required review processes under the National Historic Preservation Act, including public comment periods. The Trust asks the court to halt construction until the government complies with the law. Senior U.S. District Judge Richard J. Leon is assigned the case.
