Trump Expands Travel Ban to 39 Countries, Adds Palestinian Authority Documents, Effective January 1, 2026
President Trump issued a proclamation expanding the travel ban from 19 to 39 countries, effective January 1, 2026. Full entry bans cover 20 countries including new additions Syria, Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, South Sudan, Laos, and Sierra Leone — plus Palestinian Authority travel documents. Partial restrictions apply to 19 more countries including Angola, Nigeria, Senegal, and Zimbabwe. The expansion followed the Nov. 28 Thanksgiving Eve shooting of two National Guard members by an Afghan national.
