Rep. Adelita Grijalva sworn in; discharge petition hits 218 signatures

Rep. Adelita Grijalva (D-AZ) was sworn in on Nov. 12, 2025, 50 days after winning her Sept. 23 special election. Speaker Johnson had delayed her swearing-in citing the government shutdown. Minutes after taking the oath of office, Grijalva signed the Epstein discharge petition, becoming the 218th and decisive signature. Epstein survivors watched from the House gallery. Arizona AG Kris Mayes had filed suit Oct. 21 to compel the swearing-in.
