EPA extends PFAS drinking-water compliance deadline two years to 2031

EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin announced the agency would extend the compliance deadline for water utilities to remove PFOA and PFOS from drinking water from 2029 to 2031, giving utilities two additional years. The EPA also announced plans to rescind maximum contaminant levels for four other PFAS chemicals — PFHxS, PFNA, GenX, and PFBS — effectively eliminating federal limits for those compounds entirely. Environmental groups noted 176 million Americans remain exposed to PFAS above the new limits.
