UN Human Rights Council appoints Francesca Albanese Special Rapporteur on occupied Palestinian territories
The UN Human Rights Council appointed Italian legal scholar Francesca Albanese as Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, effective May 1, 2022. Albanese, a specialist in Palestinian refugee law and international humanitarian law, was appointed to a three-year independent mandate to report on rights conditions in the West Bank, Gaza, and East Jerusalem. The position is unpaid and independent of any government; Rapporteurs serve in their personal capacity and cannot receive instructions from any state.
