André Darryl Carson has represented Indiana's 7th Congressional District since winning a March 2008 special election to succeed his grandmother, the late Rep. Julia Carson. Born October 16, 1974, in Indianapolis, Carson is the second Muslim elected to the U.S. Congress and the only member to have served in a Department of Homeland Security Fusion Center. Before Congress, he worked as a compliance officer for the Indiana State Excise Police, served in intelligence and counter-terrorism at the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, and sat on the Indianapolis City-County Council. In the 119th Congress, Carson serves on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (where he is Ranking Member of the CIA Subcommittee), and the Select Committee on Strategic Competition with the Chinese Communist Party. He holds a B.A. in Criminal Justice Management from Concordia University Wisconsin and an M.S. in Business Management from Indiana Wesleyan University.
