Diana Louise DeGette has represented Colorado's 1st Congressional District since 1997, making her the longest-serving member of Colorado's congressional delegation. Born July 29, 1957, in Tachikawa, Japan, where her father served in the U.S. military, DeGette earned her B.A. in political science from Colorado College (1979) and her J.D. from NYU School of Law (1982). Before Congress, she served two terms in the Colorado House of Representatives (1993-1997) as assistant minority leader. In the U.S. House, she served as Chief Deputy Whip (2005-2019), authored the landmark 21st Century Cures Act signed into law in 2016, championed the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act, and served as an impeachment manager during President Trump's second impeachment trial in 2021. She currently serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee as ranking member of the Health Subcommittee.
