Danny K. Davis has represented Illinois's 7th Congressional District since January 1997, making him one of the longest-serving members of the House. Born September 6, 1941, in Parkdale, Arkansas, Davis moved to Chicago in 1961 and built careers as an educator, community organizer, and health administrator before entering politics. He served as Chicago's 29th Ward alderman from 1979 to 1990 and as a Cook County commissioner from 1990 to 1996 before winning his congressional seat. In the 119th Congress, Davis serves on the House Ways and Means Committee as ranking member of the Worker and Family Support Subcommittee. He announced on July 31, 2025, that he will not seek reelection in 2026, ending a 30-year congressional career.
