John Bingham

Ohio congressman who drafted Section 1 of the Fourteenth Amendment, which established equal protection and due process as constitutional guarantees against state action. Bingham is often called the "James Madison of the Fourteenth Amendment" for his central role in writing the language that became the foundation of modern civil rights law.
