John Roberts

Chief Justice, U.S. Supreme Court · R
Chief Justice since 2005 whose record defies easy labeling. Roberts saved the Affordable Care Act in NFIB v. Sebelius (2012) while simultaneously gutting the Voting Rights Act in Shelby County v. Holder (2013). His "major questions doctrine" has significantly curtailed federal agency authority. He presided over both Trump impeachment trials.
