Judy Chu has served in the U.S. House of Representatives since winning a July 2009 special election in California's 32nd congressional district, replacing Hilda Solis after Solis became Secretary of Labor under President Obama. Chu made history as the first Chinese American woman elected to Congress. Before entering Congress, she served on the Garvey School District Board of Education (1985-1988), the Monterey Park City Council (1988-2001) with three terms as mayor, the California State Assembly (2001-2006), and the California Board of Equalization (2007-2009). She currently represents California's 28th district, which includes Pasadena, Claremont, and the west San Gabriel Valley. Chu chairs emerita the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus and co-founded the bipartisan Congressional Creative Rights Caucus.
