She authored the Deborah Sampson Act, the most comprehensive legislation for women veterans in over a decade, and chairs the Women Veterans Task Force on the House Veterans' Affairs Committee. Before Congress, Brownley served in the California State Assembly and spent 12 years on the Santa Monica-Malibu school board, where she served three terms as president.
